Rob Gronkowski's college career

Gronk played college football at the University of Arizona for Mike Stoops, choosing to play for the Wildcats over offers from Clemson, Ohio State, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Maryland and Syracuse.

During his freshman season in 2007, Gronk caught 28 passes for 525 yards and six touchdowns as Arizona finished 5-7. Despite missing three games his sophomore season in 2008, Gronk caught 48 passes for 672 yards and 10 touchdowns, a figure which led the Pac-10.ย

Prior to his junior season in 2009, Gronk underwent back surgery, causing him to miss the entire season. He declared for the 2010 NFL Draft after only 22 college games, causing him to slip to the second round. He was still the second tight end drafted after Jermaine Gresham (Cincinnati Bengals, 21st overall).ย

The Patriots passed over Gronk once in the first round before drafting him 42nd overall, although the gamble certainly paid off for New England as it wound up with a very good player at 27th overall in Devin McCourty.
