Jason McCourty calls brother Devin "drama queen" after his decision to return in 2019

Jason McCourty calls brother Devin "drama queen" after his decision to return in 2019

Even when Patriots fans got worried when Devin McCourty hinted at retirement if the Patriots won Super Bowl LIII, one very reliable source said it wasn't that big a deal.

That person? McCourty's twin brother Jason. After Devin's comments to Deion Sanders on Media Night, Jason wasn't really buying it, telling NBC Sports Boston's Tom E. Curran that Devin was only being a drama queen.

Devin put an official end to the speculation Thursday, when he announced on the Sports Spectrum podcast that he would indeed return in 2019.

And guess who was ready to take a victory lap on Twitter? You guessed it: Jason.

The McCourty brothers are in Puerto Rico this weekend, and Tom E. Curran will be there as well. He'll have more on the Patriots safety's decision to return for a 10th season in New England throughout the day Friday on NBCSportsBoston.com and on Early Edition and Boston Sports Tonight.

Patriots safety Devin McCourty returning for 2019 season: 'I'm gonna play'

Devin McCourty surprised many people on Super Bowl Opening Night when he didn't dismiss the possibility of retiring after Super Bowl LIII, but the New England Patriots safety has no plans to step away from the NFL just yet.

“I’m gonna play,” McCourty told the Sports Spectrum podcast on Thursday.

A little time away from the game reminded McCourty that he still loves playing.

“I think once you get a chance to step away for a couple weeks now, you’re like, ‘Yeah, man, I still do want to be around these other young guys that come in,'” McCourty said.

McCourty has won three Super Bowl championships (in five total appearances) with the Patriots since the team drafted him out of Rutgers in 2010. The latest triumph came earlier this month when the Pats defeated the Los Angeles Rams 13-3 in Super Bowl LIII in Atlanta. McCourty also has been named to two Pro Bowls and three All-Pro second teams in his career.

NBC Sports Boston's Tom E. Curran will be with Devin and his brother Jason in Puerto Rico starting Friday. He'll have more on the 31-year-old's decision to return for a 10th season in Foxboro throughout the weekend on NBCSportsBoston.com and on Early Edition and Boston Sports Tonight.

The next major announcement for the Patriots' future could come from tight end Rob Gronkowski, who has yet to publicly reveal if he's returning for the 2019 campaign or retiring. His agent said a few days ago a decision could come in the next couple of weeks.
