Shannon Sharpe claims Patriots QB Tom Brady “has been very average” in 2018

The New England Patriots are the No. 2 seed in the AFC entering Week 13 of the 2018 NFL season, and quarterback Tom Brady remains their MVP in the midst of another strong season.

One former player doesn't think Brady has been great this year, though. Shannon Sharpe, who co-hosts "Undisputed" on FOX Sports 1, wasn't that impressed with the Patriots' 27-13 win against the New York Jets on Sunday. Check out what he had to say about Brady during Monday's episode:

Brady's stats this season aren't historic, but they're not "very average", either.

He has completed 65.2 percent of his passes for 3,031 yards, 19 touchdown passes and seven interceptions. His 19 touchdown passes are fewer than he normally has at this juncture in the season, but the Patriots have 13 rushing touchdowns (tied for fifth-most in the league) through 10 games after totaling 16 all of last season. Running backs Sony Michel and James White have done a great job giving the Patriots a balanced offense that ranks tied for seventh in points scored per game. Brady shouldn't be knocked for that.

Brady also is throwing for about nine fewer yards per game and completing only 1.1 percent fewer of his passes than last season when he was named AP NFL MVP for the third time in his career. Brady's 7.54 yards per pass attempt, which Sharpe noted in his take, still are a little bit higher than his career average.

While Brady's stats in 2018 aren't as dominant as we've seen in recent campaigns, he's certainly not "average." And the Patriots have the easiest portion of their schedule after the Week 11 bye, which began Sunday when Brady threw for 283 yards with two touchdowns and zero interceptions in a victory over the Jets.
