This stat is a horrible sign for the Patriots' Super Bowl chances

It's no secret that the Patriots have been awful on the road this season.

New England has gone just 3-5 away from Foxboro, their most road losses since 2009 when they went 2-6 on the road in the regular season before getting routed by the Ravens in an ugly 33-14 Wild Card round loss.

The Pats' most recent road defeat knocked them back to the No. 3 seed in the AFC, jeopardizing their chances of a ninth straight first-round bye. Now they'll try to do what very few teams have ever done... win the Super Bowl despite a sub-.500 road record.

Of the 104 teams to reach the Super Bowl, only two have reached the title game while playing under .500 away from home: the 2008 Cardinals and the 2010 Packers, both of which had 3-5 records just like the Pats.

The road (no pun intended) to Atlanta won't be easy, especially if New England has to pack their bags in the postseason. Under Bill Belichick, the Pats are just 3-4 in road playoff games, with the last win coming way back in January 2007 in San Diego.
