Stephon Gilmore has predictable reaction to NFL pass interference rule

Stephon Gilmore is sticking up for his fellow defensive backs.

The NFL officially passed a rule Tuesday which would allow pass interference calls (and non-calls) to be challenged by coaches and reviewed within the final two minutes of each half.

The rule change is in part a response to the egregious defensive pass interference call officials missed in the NFC Championship Game that ultimately cost the New Orleans Saints a trip to the Super Bowl.

But the New England Patriots' top cornerback would like to make sure attention gets paid to offensive pass interference, as well.

Spoken like a true defensive back.

Gilmore's concern is understandable, as the NFL competition committee also ruled Tuesday night that a play he was involved in during Super Bowl LIII should have been ruled pass interference.

But the rule does apply to both offensive and defensive pass interference, so in theory, Gilmore will get his wish. Whether the rule change will lead to an equal amount of offensive and defensive pass interference calls being reviewed remains to be seen, however.

Gilmore probably could talk to his head coach about this, as Bill Belichick long has been vocal about expanding replay to cover penalties and non-calls.
