Tebow has better Comeback Player of the Year odds than Hightower

The NFL Comeback Player of the Year award has been dominated by quarterbacks as of late.

Signal callers have taken home the honor in nine of the past 13 seasons, including each of the last three.

Alex Smith followed up fellow quarterbacks Andrew Luck and Ryan Tannehill to win Comeback Player of the Year in 2020. Nearly two years after suffering a life-threatening leg injury, Smith returned to the field in relief duty and helped lead the Washington Football Team to a division title.

The last non-quarterback to claim Comeback Players of Year? Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen back in 2017 when he hauled in 102 receptions for 1,393 yards on the heels of consecutive injury-shortened seasons.

Surprise, surprise: The top two favorites to win the 2021 Comeback Player of the Year award are quarterbacks. Dak Prescott has the best odds at +150 after suffering a gruesome season-ending ankle injury in Week 5 of last season. Fresh off inking a $160 million deal in the offseason, the Cowboys signal caller is expected to be ready for the start of training camp.

Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has the second-best Comeback Player of the Year odds at +400. Burrow tore his ACL and MCL in late November of 2020, but he reportedly will be ready for Cincinnati’s season opener.

49ers defensive end Nick Bosa is also coming off a torn ACL and has the best odds among non-quarterbacks to capture the award at +550.

Behind Bosa is a pair of running backs who had injury-plagued 2020 seasons in Saquon Barkley and Christian McCaffery, who are both at +700. Barkley suffered a torn ACL the same day as Bosa did in Week 2, while McCaffrey was limited to three games due to multiple injuries.

New Colts quarterback Carson Wentz has the best odds among players who aren’t coming off an injury at +1000. Wentz had a disastrous 2020 season with the Eagles that saw him record a league-leading 15 interceptions and 50 sacks taken (in just 12 games) before getting benched.

Not only is Jaguars quarterback outfielder tight end Tim Tebow listed among the Comeback Player of the Year candidates, he has better odds (+3300) than players like Jimmy Garoppolo, Dont'a Hightower and CJ Mosley. After retiring from baseball earlier this year, Tebow is back with an NFL team for the first time since 2015 and trying out a new position with the Jaguars.
