Tom Brady praises ‘spectacular' Patriots defense after 43-0 win vs. Dolphins

The New England Patriots defense has played incredibly well to start the 2019 NFL season, and Tom Brady is quite impressed with what he's seen from this group.

The Patriots earned their first shutout win since 2016 on Sunday with a soul-crushing 43-0 triumph over the Miami Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium. New England's defense tallied seven sacks and intercepted Dolphins quarterbacks Ryan Fitzpatrick and Josh Rosen a combined four times, two of which were returned for touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

The dominant defensive effort drew plenty of praise from Brady.

"They were spectacular, as always," the Patriots quarterback told reporters. "They've been playing great. They've been playing great (since the) preseason. Two interceptions returned for touchdowns, that was pretty insane. And then the last play to end it also was a great play. It takes some pressure off the offense -- we just got to go make good plays and not turn it over. They're doing an incredible job."

Brady and the offense played pretty well, too. The Patriots racked up 381 total yards of offense and went 6-for-11 on third downs. Newly signed wide receiver Antonio Brown made his debut and led all Patriots pass-catchers with 56 yards on four receptions, including a 20-yard touchdown.

Still, the defense was the story of Sunday's victory. This unit has given up just six (!) points since the start of overtime in last season's AFC Championship Game win over the Kansas City Chiefs.
