Tom Brady questionable because of knee injury and illness, but is expected to play

FOXBORO -- Nobody panic. Nothing to see here. Tom Brady has been listed as questionable for Sunday's game with the Jets.

Rob Gronkowski (knee/ankle), Shaq Mason (calf), Nate Ebner (knee) and Sony Michel (knee) have also been listed as questionable for their Week 12 contest in New Jersey.

Brady did not participate in Friday's practice as he deals with a knee injury and an illness. It's the first practice he's missed this season. Brady was scheduled to speak with reporters on Friday for his weekly press conference, but he was not made available.

According to Patriots Insider Tom E. Curran, Brady's knee issue is not severe enough that it will keep him off the field Sunday.

Brady suffered the injury in Tennessee on a play when he was asked to go from quarterback to receiver, catch a Julian Edelman pass, and run for a first down to extend the Patriots drive. When Brady caught the ball (which was thrown a touch behind him), he stumbled forward and was hit by linebacker Wesley Woodyard short of the first-down marker.

At this point it's unclear what illness Brady is dealing with and if how it might impact him against the Jets, if at all. Left tackle Trent Brown dealt with an illness in the week leading up to the Titans game and had to stay off the field at one point in order to get him fluids via an IV.

Though Gronkowski is listed as questionable, he told reporters Friday that he's "good to go" for the Jets game. Fellow tight end Dwayne Allen did not practice this week and has been ruled out thanks to a knee injury.

Gronkowski was asked if he's ever concerned when Brady doesn't practice.

"No, just got to keep doing what we’ve got to do," he said. "You’ve got to focus on doing your job and when there’s not a player like that in – because he runs the offense and everything – you’ve just got to be more alert and more aware and just got to make sure you’re on top of your job and your assignment and everything.

"Because, no lie, he knows the playbook inside and out, basically every position, so if he’s not in there, you’ve just got to make sure you know what you’re doing, your knowledge and do your job."

Gronkowski did say that Brady threw him passes Friday at some point, though he wouldn't say where.

"Could have been on the field," he said, "could have been in the locker room . . . I don’t know."
