Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr. was selected in the sixth round (199th overall) by the New England Patriots in the 2000 NFL Draft. All he's done since then is go on to become the most accomplished player in the history of the league, winning seven Super Bowls and holding numerous passing records.

Following 20 seasons and six championships with the Patriots, Brady signed as a free agent with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020, winning a seventh title in his first season with the team. He announced his second retirement in February 2023 after his third season with the Bucs, one year after a brief run-in with retirement before returning for a 23rd NFL season in 2022. Tom Brady made a lot of money in his NFL career.

As a seventh-round pick, he earned $231,500 in his rookie season. In 2001, he led the Patriots to their first Super Bowl and won Super Bowl MVP despite earning only $372,160. Brady signed a four-year, $29.625 million extension with the Patriots a few months after winning that first ring.

Miraculously, Brady didn't make over $20 million in a season until his final year in New England ($23 million in 2019). He frequently signed team-friendly deals, which allowed Bill Belichick to bolster the roster around him. In 20 seasons with the Pats, Brady earned $235,166,804 -- an average of just under $12 million per year.

When Brady moved south to Tampa Bay, his salary ballooned. In three years with the Bucs, he earned $97,795,588 -- an average of over $32.5 million per year.

Tom Brady's college career

Brady played college football at the University of Michigan for Lloyd Carr. Brady, who also played baseball and basketball at Junipero Serra High School in San Mateo, had been drafted by the Montreal Expos in the 18th round of the 1995 Major League Baseball Draft.

Brady backed up future NFL quarterback Brian Griese during his first two years for the Wolverines before emerging as starter for his junior and senior seasons, although Drew Henson -- who'd go on to play in both the NFL and MLB -- also received some playing time under center.

The Wolverines won a national championship in 1997, Brady's sophomore season, but he appeared in only four games and attempted 15 passes.

Brady led Michigan to victories in the Citrus Bowl and Orange Bowl, respectively, following the 1998 and 1999 seasons prior to graduation.
