The New York Giants reportedly have found their next head coach, and it's not Jason Garrett or Josh McDaniels.

It's New England Patriots special teams coordinator and wide receivers coach Joe Judge. The 38-year-old coach is finalizing a contract with the Giants, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. Judge joined the Patriots in 2012 and worked on special teams throughout his tenure. He added wide receivers to his coaching responsibilities this past season.

The Giants have missed the playoffs in three consecutive seasons, and they've made only one postseason appearance in the last eight years. Judge has a tough task getting the Giants back into playoff contention, but there are solid pieces in place, including quarterback Daniel Jones and star running back Saquon Barkley.

Despite Judge's talent as a coach and the respect he's earned around the league, many people were surprised the Giants reportedly are choosing him. There were several other more established coaching candidates, including some with experience as a head coach. New York is taking a risk, but it's a smart one.

Here's some notable Twitter reaction to Judge's hiring in New York.
