Ty Law declares Stephon Gilmore the ‘best cornerback in football right now'

Ty Law knows a great cornerback when he sees one.

The former Patriots corner and newly-inducted Hall of Famer loves what he's seen from Stephon Gilmore, who enjoyed a stellar 2018 season. In fact, he goes as far as to say Gilmore is the best in the league at his position.

Law raved about Gilmore to the Boston Herald.

“He’s the best cornerback in football right now,” Law told the Herald. “I didn’t see anybody out there playing any better [last season].”

As the Patriots prepare for training camp, Law expects more of the same from their veteran cornerback in 2019.

“He’s really confident, and he’s taken his game to the next level,” Law said. “He’s first-team All-Pro. I think he’s going to continue to do that this year. He'll be ready to roll."

Gilmore's 2018 campaign will be a tough act to follow. The 28-year-old was the only cornerback to receive an "elite" grade from Pro Football Focus a year ago. Plus, it'll be difficult to produce a moment greater than his clutch interception in Super Bowl LIII

Still, he'll look to take another step forward in the upcoming season and show PFF why the Patriots secondary deserves to be ranked higher than the fifth-best unit in the league.
