The New England Patriots defense gave a brilliant performance in the team's 33-3 win against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 1, and it all started with a passionate pre-game speech from Devin McCourty.
McCourty is one of the leaders of the defense and among seven Patriots team captains, and he got his defensive teammates all fired up just prior to kickoff Sunday night. Check out the veteran safety's speech in the video below:
The Patriots defense allowed only three points, gave up just 308 total yards, stopped Pittsburgh on nine of 12 third downs and intercepted Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger once. The lone interception was from McCourty, who picked off a deep pass by Big Ben in the fourth quarter.
We should expect another excellent performance from McCourty and the Patriots defense in Week 2 when they travel to Miami to play the struggling Dolphins. The Dolphins lost 59-10 to the Baltimore Ravens at home in Week 1, and they are 18.5-point underdogs to the rival Pats entering Sunday.
