FOXBORO, Mass. -- Josh Gordon made his preseason debut for the New England Patriots on Thursday night, his first game action with the team since he was suspended indefinitely in December.

Gordon, who was reinstated by the NFL earlier this month, started the Patriots' preseason finale against the New York Giants at Gillette Stadium. He was targeted three times by rookie quarterback Jarrett Stidham on the opening drive, including a catch along the right sideline. He finished with two receptions for 30 yards on six targets.

Gordon wasn't the only veteran wide receiver making his preseason debut for the Patriots.

Julian Edelman also made his first start of the summer and hauled in a reception on the first drive. He lost the ball at the end of the play (after the whistle) and looked down at his left thumb.

Demaryius Thomas got his first taste of preseason action, too. The 31-year-old wideout signed with the Patriots in the offseason and recently returned to practice following his recovery from an Achilles tear suffered in December. Thomas hauled in seven receptions for 87 yards and two touchdowns on eight targets.

Gordon and Thomas played most of the first half, while Edelman left and didn't return after his lone reception.
