Will new Patriots TE Mike Gesicki hit these contract incentives?

Mike Gesicki signed a one-year contract worth up to $ 9 million with the New England Patriots in NFL free agency earlier this month. But if he's going to earn the full value of that deal in 2023, he'll need to hit several incentives.

In fact, half of the value of his contract is in incentives, per Doug Kyed of A to Z Sports. Kyed tweeted a full breakdown of Gesicki's incentives Friday:

Gesicki has a pretty good chance to hit the incentives for 30, 40 and 50 receptions. He has averaged 46.2 receptions over five pro seasons. His career high of 73 came in 2021, when he also set a personal best of 780 yards. If healthy, he could hit the incentives for 450, 550 and 650 receiving yards.

Will JuJu Smith-Schuster hit these reported contract incentives in 2023?

Whether Gesicki reaches his incentives for snaps played will likely depend on how well he fits into the offense. He mostly played tight end with the Miami Dolphins, but his impressive pass-catching and route running abilities could make him an effective wide receiver in new Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien's offense. Honestly, you could argue Gesicki's skill set is really that of a wideout.

The Gesicki signing overall was a low-risk, potentially high-reward move for the Patriots. He's better than his lackluster 2022 stats would suggest, and with a one-year contract, Gesicki has plenty of motivation to enjoy a bounce-back campaign and earn even more money next offseason.
