New home of NBC Sports Boston part of NBCU's Boston Media Center unveiling

NBC Sports Boston, NBC10 Boston, NECN and Telemundo Boston will unveil the newly built NBCUniversal Boston Media Center with a live broadcast from Telemundo Boston on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

The multi-million dollar, state-of-the-art,160,000-square-foot news center at 189 B Street in Needham, Mass, in the Needham Crossing Business Park, is the largest investment ever made by a media company in Greater Boston, according to NBCUniversal.

“We are excited to welcome you to our new workspace, proudly called the NBCU Boston Media Center,“ said Mike St. Peter, president and general manager of NBC10 Boston, Telemundo Boston and NECN. We have designed a content production center for the future, serving our viewers, users and customers at the highest level.”

The co-location of a regional sports network with the local and regional news networks will result in stronger newsgathering collaborations between NBCU’s Boston-based stations to better serve audiences with content in two languages and across all platforms.

The advanced media facility has completed its launch, with all stations scheduled for on-air broadcast within the week.

Employees from NBC Sports Boston, NBC10 Boston, Telemundo Boston and NECN are now all housed in the Media Center with access to six new production studios, six broadcast control rooms, a podcast studio and more.

Chris Wayland named Senior Vice President, General Manager of NBC Sports Boston

NBC Sports Boston has named Chris Wayland Senior Vice President and General Manager of NBC Sports Boston, the official sports network of the Boston Celtics. Wayland, who was named Senior Vice President and Station Manager of NBC10 / WBTS, Telemundo Boston / WNEU, and NECN, in February, will continue to oversee the sales, finance, marketing, and digital departments for the stations and NECN. The announcement was made by Ted Griggs, President, Group Leader and Strategic Production & Programming, NBC Sports Regional Networks.  

In this expanded role, Wayland will oversee the day-to-day operations of the network and its relationship with the Celtics. NBC Sports Boston also presents New England Revolution Major League Soccer games, several exclusive programs surrounding the New England Patriots, and comprehensive coverage of New England sports. 

Wayland will be based in Needham, Mass., home of the new NBCUniversal Boston Media Center, where NBC Sports Boston will relocate, along with NBC10 Boston, Telemundo Boston, and NECN, by early January. He will report to both Mike St. Peter, President and General Manager of NBC10, Telemundo Boston and NECN, and Griggs. 

“Chris has a deep expertise of the media landscape in Boston, proven leadership qualities, and a demonstrated track record of innovation and growth,” said Griggs. “We look forward to seeing how Chris will help the NBC Sports Boston team continue to grow and best serve our passionate fans.”

Wayland is a seasoned broadcast executive with more than two decades of experience in television. Before joining NBCUniversal earlier this year, he worked as Senior Vice President, General Manager at WPIX-TV in New York from 2016-19, as well as Tribune Media as Vice President of Group Operations. He also worked at Sunbeam Television from 2007-16, where he held numerous roles, including Executive Vice President and General Manager of WHDH/WLVI in Boston, and WSVN in Miami, and General Station Manager and General Sales Manager of WHDH in Boston. He began his career at WLVI-TV in Boston. Wayland has a bachelor’s degree from Elmira College in New York, and resides in Boston with his family.

NBC Sports Boston to air all Major League Lacrosse Boston Cannon games in 2019

QUINCY, MA (March 28, 2019) - The Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) and NBC Sports Boston have agreed on a media partnership to present all 16 Boston Cannons lacrosse games in the 2019 season, starting with their home opener on June 1 at 5 p.m. ET. 

NBC Sports Boston will broadcast all 16 games as well as full-event replays for select games. This marks NBC Sports Boston’s third year as a partner of the Boston Cannons, growing from an online collaboration to hosting multiple live games in the 2018 season. In 2019, the partnership has expanded to the full 16-game season as well as multi-platform marketing promotion. 

Coverage of each home game will begin before face-off at the top of the hour and will end at the conclusion of the game.  Away contests may be aired on delay – viewers can check local listings for airtimes. The full schedule is below:
