2004 Red Sox to throw first pitch in Game 2

In the spirit of winning World Series championships, the Red Sox will have members of the 2004 Red Sox, including David Ortiz, Pedro Martinez and Kevin Millar, throw out the first pitch Wednesday before Game 2 against the Dodgers.

The rest of the members from 2004 are Jason Varitek, Tim Wakefield, Keith Foulke and Alan Embree

All three played key roles in the Red Sox curse-breaking championship in 2004, but one member of that team present tonight will not join them on the mound. Dave Roberts, manager of the Dodgers cemented his place in Red Sox lore for his pinch running against the Yankees in the ALCS that fall.

Here's his pregame exchaneg with reporters yesterday before Game 1.

Q. As I hope the Red Sox have made you aware by now, the 2004 team is throwing out the first pitch tomorrow collectively. Do you plan to be out there?

DAVE ROBERTS: I got wind of it today. And I don't plan on partaking. But I'll be there to watch and see those guys throw out the first pitch.

Q. Why not?

ROBERTS: No, I mean, I'm going to be getting ready for a game. So I'll have fun with those guys but, yeah, I won't be a part of it.

Sounds reasonable enough.
