The Boston Red Sox may have given themselves more future cap flexibility by trading Mookie Betts and David Price to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

They also may have traded away a future National League MVP.

DraftKings Sportsbook has early odds to win the 2020 NL MVP award, and Betts currently leads the field at +550, just ahead of new Dodgers teammate and reigning NL MVP Cody Bellinger.

There's good reason to for sportsbooks to be bullish on Betts, a 27-year-old superstar in his prime who won American League MVP in 2018 and has racked up four Gold Gloves and three Silver Slugger awards over the last four seasons.

Betts should benefit both from getting out of the competitive AL East -- the Dodgers are the only NL West team currently projected to make the playoffs -- and from batting in the middle of a loaded Los Angeles lineup that will force opponents to pitch to him.

The Red Sox, meanwhile, will dearly miss Betts' presence atop their batting order in 2020. Rafael Devers has the best odds among Boston players to win AL MVP at a distant +4000, per DraftKings Sportsbook, while Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout is the clear favorite at +150.

If Betts wins NL MVP, he'll join Frank Robinson as the only player in MLB history to earn MVP honors in both leagues -- and present another reminder of the generational talent the Red Sox traded away.
