Alex Cora and the Boston Red Sox will soon open the 2019 season and try to defend their World Series title, something no MLB team has successfully accomplished since the New York Yankees three-peated in 1998, 1999 and 2000.
Trying to repeat as champs will be a new experience for the Red Sox manager, and to best prepare for the challenge ahead, he's hoping to pick the brain of a coach who's won back-to-back titles: New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.
Cora sat down with MLB Network and explained to Tom Verducci what he wants to ask Belichick about defending a championship. Check it out in the video below:
The Patriots won Super Bowl LIII over the Los Angeles Rams earlier this month, so they also will be defending a title later this year. Belichick's Patriots were the last NFL team to win consecutive Super Bowl titles in 2003 and 2004.
The Red Sox haven't repeated as World Series champions since 1915 and 1916, back when Babe Ruth was the team's best player. Cora's squad does have a good chance of returning to the World Series after the front office returned nearly all of the 2018 roster. Oddsmakers like Boston's chances, too -- the Sox have the second-best odds to the 2019 World Series.
