Alex Cora jokes that Big Papi needs to find a new seat at Fenway

On Monday night, Manny Ramirez threw out the ceremonial first pitch to David Ortiz at Fenway Park. Ramirez was in Boston to receive his Red Sox Hall of Fame plaque after missing the induction ceremony last month.

The two Red Sox legends sat directly next to the Red Sox dugout with their sons along with Pedro Martinez's son. For two of the last three games, Ortiz has been just an arms-length away from where Alex Cora manages the team.

According to Cora, Big Papi is a big talker.

"At some point, we've got to seat David somewhere else," Cora joked after the game, via MassLive.com. "It's non-stop (talking). It's not Fort Myers, bro. I love it."

Ortiz covered a wide variety of topics over the course of the nine innings despite Cora's attempt to quiet him in order to better focus on the game.

"About everything, like pitching," Cora said about his conversations with Ortiz. "At one point, he started talking about this thing they did on FOX. Stuff about pitchers not throwing strikes. He doesn’t understand how hitters are struggling when (pitchers) don’t throw strikes. I mean, this was going on for five minutes. I was like, 'Oh my God.' Just listen and laugh and give him (sunflower) seeds so he can stay quiet."

Aside from the incessant talking during the game, Cora -- who played with both Ortiz and Ramirez in Boston from 2005 to 2008 -- was happy to have two former Boston stars at Fenway on Monday night. He recognizes the positive effect that the two legends have on the Red Sox.

"When the big guy (Ortiz) is here, it’s awesome. The players love it," Cora said. "He goes to the cage and he talks to them. Some guys hitting hadn’t seen Manny in a while. To meet him, I know it means a lot. The more the better. I’m a big believer that those guys around here, they bring a lot to the equation."

Even with Ortiz acting as a distraction on Monday night, Cora was able to lead the Red Sox to a 5-2 win against the Detroit Tigers.
