Bogaerts and Nunez join the fun in Fort Myers
FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Another gorgeous day at JetBlue Park.
It was a regular day of workouts with Dustin Pedroia, Xander Bogaerts, and Alex Cora each holding press conferences.
Here’s a breakdown of everything that went on. . .
More Red Sox are trickling in before the official Feb. 18 full squad report date. Xander Bogaerts (left) and Eduardo Nuñez showed up to the facility on Friday.
WHAT WAS SAID?
Tyler Thornburg on working with Pedro Martinez: “I mean, he makes me want to throw 98 with a nasty changeup. Yeah, it’s cool. I mean it really is just, you know, have to find somewhere between like, ‘hey, this is awesome’ and ‘hey, I gotta throw a bullpen.’ But like I said, it’s really cool having him back there.”
Xander Bogaerts on whether the slow free agent market affects his thoughts about signing an extension with Boston: “I mean you obviously have to think about that. I think we’re all baseball players, we all want to do well and take care of our family. But those [Bryce Harper, Manny Machado, Craig Kimbrel] are some big names, man. Those are big names that coming into this year everyone expected to get all this money and stuff like that. I mean they were two of the main free agents and they’re still out there, so. I just don’t understand sometimes out how it is like that.
Dustin Pedroia on his knee surgery: “I wouldn’t have done it. I just, i mean, I don’t regret doing it. But looking back knowing what i know now, I wouldn’t have done it.”
The standard batting practice, fielding drills, etc. Chris Sale brought his son to join him in doing some stretches. Pedro Martinez led a workout with Eduardo Rodriguez. Dustin Pedroia, Xander Bogaerts, and Alex Cora spoke to the media outside on the bench.
It’s been a drama-free spring thus far, so storylines are few and far between. Dustin Pedroia said if he could go back in time, he’d opt not to have knee surgery. Xander Bogaerts talked about the slow free-agent market and touched on the fact it’s his contract year, admitting it’s weird to picture himself in a different uniform.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
“Anything he says, I fully believe he can do it. If he says he can fly, I think he’ll fly.” - Xander Bogaerts on Dustin Pedroia
