Chris Sale set yet another impressive strikeout record in his Tuesday night start vs. the Indians.

The Red Sox ace K'd Oscar Mercado in the third inning to notch the 2,000th strikeout of his 10-year career. Not only that, but Sale set the MLB record for fewest innings needed to accomplish the feat with 1,626.

Red Sox great Pedro Martinez previously held the record as it took him 1,711 1/3 innings to reach the 2,000-strikeout mark.

It's been a down season overall for the left-hander, but Sale's strikeout numbers continue to be among the league's best. He entered Tuesday's matchup with 206 K's in 140.2 innings pitched (13.2 SO/9).

In his last outing vs. the Angels, Sale became the fifth player in league history to tally at least 200 strikeouts in seven straight seasons.
