Cora: Sale should be fine after stomach illness

Red Sox manager Alex Cora told reporters following Sunday night's ALCS Game 2 win over the Astros that Chris Sale, who checked in to Massachusetts General Hospital on Sunday night with a stomach illness, should be fine and is hopeful the staff ace will re-join the team when the series comes to Houston.

"I was walking into the batting cage and on the TV I saw the tweet by the organization. And he was feeling bad and he's at the hospital," Cora said.

"From what I know, it's nothing serious, but obviously, whenever you have to go to the hospital you gotta be, quote-unquote, worried. But he should be fine. Hopefully we get news in the upcoming hours and he'll join us in Houston."

Game 3 of the ALCS is scheduled for Tuesday night at Minute Maid Park, in Houston.

Sale allowed just one hit in four innings against the Astros in Saturday's Game 1 at Fenway, but walked four batters, saw his velocity uncharacteristically low for much of the outing and struggled with his command -- especiall with his tradmark slider. Sale struck out five and allowed just two earned runs, but the Red Sox wound up losing 7-2.

Cora said that Sale's condition didn't effect his performance in Game 1.

"No, no, he started feeling bad after the game," Cora said.
