Curt Schilling running for Congress? Donald Trump endorses ex-Red Sox pitcher

Political pundits on television, especially Fox News, have often shaped what President Donald Trump focuses on and tweets about. Tuesday morning was no different, as Trump cited one of his favorite shows, "Fox and Friends," to encourage a political figure to run for Congress in Arizona.

That potential candidate? Former Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling.

Trump's tweet comes a day after Schilling, a Republican, told the Arizona Republic that he is "absolutely considering" running against one of the state's five Democrats. In a profanity-laced email to the Republic, Schilling expressed concern that the state is prioritizing illegal immigrants above Arizonians:

"The state is not the state I grew up in," Schilling wrote. "Making Arizona citizens of EVERY Race, religion and sexual orientation 2nd class citizens to illegal immigrants is about as anti-American as it gets. When you have homeless veterans, children, and you're spending tax dollars on people smuggling drugs and children across our border someone in charge needs their ass kicked."

Schilling, who won two World Series with the Red Sox from 2004 to 2007, has always been heavily involved in politics. He campaigned for George W. Bush in 2004 and floated the possibility of running for Senate in 2008.

In 2018, he announced he'd pose a challenge to Elizabeth Warren's Senate seat in Massachusetts, but quickly dropped out. As a podcast host for the alt-right Breitbart News, Schilling has run into controversy and often gets into Twitter spats on controversial social issues.
