We're beginning to learn more about the shocking shooting that left David Ortiz wounded in the Dominican Republic late Sunday night.

The man who shot Ortiz at a bar in Santo Domingo has been identified as 25-year-old Eddy Feliz Garcia, ESPN's Enrique Rojas reported Monday morning, citing police spokesman Colonel Frank Duran Mejia.

According to local authorities, Garcia arrived at the bar on a motorcycle, walked up behind Ortiz and fired a shot at close range that pierced Ortiz's lower back and exited through his abdomen.

Garcia was surrounded and viciously beaten by a crowd of people at the bar and was treated for several injuries at a Santo Domingo hospital before being released into police custody, per a police spokesman.

There's video circulating of a young man (allegedly Garcia) being beaten at the bar, but be warned: It's very graphic.

Dominican journalist Edith Febles shared a photo of Garcia in police custody after being treated for his injuries.

Ortiz underwent a lengthy surgery late Sunday night at a Santo Domingo hospital, where he had parts of his intestines and colon removed. He's still in intensive care as of Monday morning but is expected to make a full recovery.
