David Price gives up six in the third, pulled from start vs Yankees after eight outs

After a doubleheader Saturday that saw Chris Sale and Brian Johnson get rocked by the Yankees lineup, the Red Sox needed David Price to deliver a strong performance to help snap a seven-game losing streak.

They didn't get it.

Price was shelled in the third inning of Sunday night's game in the Bronx, where he gave up six of his seven earned runs before getting taken out of the game by Alex Cora. Price only retired eight Yankees hitters, and Gleyber Torres was the only one who failed to get a hit off of him.

Price finished with a line of seven earned runs, nine hits, two home runs and two walks over just 2.2 innings.

The Red Sox elected not to make a move to sure up its starting rotation, which has the most starts that have gone three innings or fewer in 2019, a 5.04 ERA on the year and have given up 44 runs over the last eight games.

Pitching became a pretty apparent need as the season unfolded, but since no deals were made and the trade deadline passed, this is the team that they'll have to go forward with. And it's a team that hasn't won a game in over a week.
