Marwin Gonzalez will compete for a championship just a couple of months after being released by the Boston Red Sox.

The super utility man, who signed a one-year deal worth $3 million with Boston last winter, replaced injured outfielder Jake Meyers on the Houston Astros' World Series roster on Tuesday. Gonzalez signed a minor-league contract with Houston on Aug. 27.

Gonzalez hit .202 with two homers and 20 RBI in 77 games with the Red Sox this season. In 14 games with the Astros, he hit .176 with three homers and eight RBI.

While Gonzalez may not be much of a threat at the plate, he'll provide Houston with plenty of versatility. The 32-year-old switch hitter has experience playing every position on the field except catcher. He also spent his first seven MLB seasons with the Astros and won a World Series with the team in 2017.

Game 1 of the 2021 World Series between the Astros and Atlanta Braves is set for an 8:09 p.m. ET first pitch at Minute Maid Park.
