Brock Holt isn't walking through that door, people.
The Brewers on Thursday officially released the former Red Sox infielder, and though that makes Holt free to sign with anyone, don't expect that team to be Boston.
This will come as disappointing news to those who made Holt such a beloved fan favorite, but the Red Sox moved on from the 32-year-old Brock Star for a reason this winter, and it's because he's no longer part of their long-term plans.

Holt remained unsigned until late February before joining the Brewers for one year and $3.25 million. He then hit just .100 in sporadic playing time, going 3 for 30 in 16 games before being designated for assignment over the weekend.

The Red Sox long ago punted on 2020 and are now in full evaluation mode, which means playing time in the middle infield belongs to youngsters such as Rule 5 pick Jonathan Arauz, inconsistent slugger Michael Chavis, and slick defender Tzu-Wei Lin.
There's no point in bringing back Holt unless the Red Sox are trying to score nostalgia points, and that's not Chaim Bloom's way.

This means no disrespect to Holt's accomplishments on and off the field in Boston. He delivered some impressive highlights, including an All-Star berth in 2015 and the first cycle in postseason history three years later, and he was even more valuable in the community as a Jimmy Fund mainstay.
Holt spent seven years in Boston where he did everything except pitch and catch. He hit .270 with 23 home runs and won a pair of World Series rings, in 2013 and 2018.
