WATCH: Devers' baserunning blunder causes an inning-ending double-play

The Boston Red Sox barrage of mental mistakes and timely misplays continued on Monday night.

In the fourth inning of the team's game against the Chicago White Sox, the Red Sox had two runners in scoring position with one out. Jackie Bradley Jr. hit a pop-fly down the third-base line. After a lengthy run, Eloy Jimenez came over to make the catch to record the second out.

But the third out came as a result of Rafael Devers.

On the play, Devers tagged up at third base and pretended to run home briefly. But as a result, he got caught on the basepaths, as you can see in this clip from the Chicago White Sox' Twitter account.

The play was a clear blunder by Devers who had no business faking a tag-up on that play. The ball was far too close to him to warrant taking the chance and given that Devers is also coming off a recent hamstring injury, there was no reason for him to try to change directions quickly to draw the throw.

Devers' mistake was just one in what seems like a long line of baserunning miscues by the team this season. However, according to Alex Speier of The Boston Globe, the team has recorded 21 baserunning outs, which is two below the league average of 23.

Even though the number is below average, hopefully, the Red Sox will continue to clean up their mistakes as they look to return to the elite form that they held in 2019.
