Kiké Hernandez's rehab stint paused, return to Red Sox delayed

The Boston Red Sox will have to wait a while longer for Kiké Hernandez's to return to the lineup.

Hernandez has been on the injured list since June 8 due to a strained right hip flexor. He started his rehab stint with Triple-A Worcester on Friday but felt tightness in his hip after the game, causing his rehab to be put on pause as he returned to Boston for treatment Saturday.

“Kiké, not great today, sore,” manager Alex Cora said on Saturday, per MassLive.com. “He said that after the game, he felt tight in the same spot. He was able to take his at-bats and do whatever he did, but after the game he didn’t feel great."

The injury has forced Hernandez to miss 29 games. In 51 games played this season, the center fielder is hitting .209 with four homers and 29 RBI.

Hernandez went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts as the WooSox' designated hitter Friday vs. the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders.
