A look at Mookie Betts' five three-HR games
There haven't been many three-homer games in Red Sox history, but Mookie Betts has five of them.
On Friday night vs. the Yankees, Betts crushed three dingers off southpaw James Paxton. It was the 14th multi-HR game of Betts' career.
To celebrate the occasion, let's take a look at all of Betts' three-homer games . . .
AUGUST 14, 2016
He didn't lead off this game with a home run -- he was batting third by now -- but he did lead off the scoring with a solo shot in the bottom of the first. Then came another three-run homer in the second, which made the score 4-0, and another three-run blast in the bottom of the fifth, which increased the Sox' lead to 11-1. And the first two were hit off none other than Zack Greinke.

Back to the leadoff spot, and back to a leadoff home run . . . off the highly touted Shohei Ohtani. The Japanese rookie was gone by the third inning so Betts turned on Luke Bard (solo shot in the third) and Cam Bedrosian (solo homer in the eighth).

Two of Betts' previous three-homer games came in blowouts and the other was in a fairly comfortable victory, but not this. Betts' first homer, in the fourth, put the Red Sox on the board; they trailed 3-1 at the time. His second, one inning later, gave them the lead for good, at 4-3. And his last one, in the seventh, made the score 5-3 and accounted for what proved to be the winning run. All were hit off left-hander Danny Duffy.

Betts crushed homers over the Green Monster in each of his first three at-bats against Yankees left-hander James Paxton. The first came to leadoff the bottom of the first inning, the next came in the third inning, and homer No. 3 came in the fourth. They were his 16th, 17th, and 18th taters of the season.
