Manager of the Year: History shows 100-plus wins doesn't guarantee it

Share

The Boston Red Sox won an MLB-best 108 games in manager Alex Cora's first season at the helm, one that ended with a 2018 World Series title over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

It was an impressive first season as manager for Cora, but it wasn't enough to be named American League Manager of the Year. He finished second to Bob Melvin of the Oakland A's in voting announced Tuesday.

You might think that winning 100-plus games would be a good omen for Cora in regards to winning Manager of the Year. That's actually not the case, however, as only a select few have won the award after a 100-win season.
