When the Boston Red Sox selected Marcelo Mayer with the fourth overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, they took the consensus top prospect in the class.
They also picked a top-10 prospect in all of baseball, according to MLB Pipeline.

Mayer ranks ninth in MLB Pipeline's new Top 100 Prospects list. The 18-year-old shortstop is the highest-ranked 2021 draft prospect on the list, just ahead of Texas Rangers right-hander Jack Leiter (12th) and Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Jordan Lawlar (13th). Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Henry Davis, drafted first overall, ranks 23rd.

Other Red Sox prospects included in MLB Pipeline's Top 100 are slugging first baseman Triston Casas (18th) and speedy outfielder Jarren Duran (26th).
Through the first six games of his professional baseball career with the Florida Complex League Red Sox, Mayer is 4-for-22 (.182) with one RBI, four walks and six strikeouts.
