MLB rumors: Cubs ‘pushing hard' for Craig Kimbrel

More than two months into the season, the Craig Kimbrel sweepstakes may soon be coming to a merciful end.

The Chicago Cubs are "pushing hard" for the free-agent closer, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

The Cubs' increased interest doesn't come as a surprise. Now that the first day of the MLB draft has come and gone and there is no compensatory pick attached to Kimbrel, teams are more willing to up their offers for the seven-time All-Star's services.

Also reportedly interested in signing Kimbrel are the Rays, Braves, Phillies, and Twins. It may have to be a multi-year deal, though, as the former Red Sox closer still doesn't have interest in signing a one-year contract.
