The MLB trade deadline has passed, but the Boston Red Sox aren't done making roster moves.

The Red Sox have acquired outfielder Delino DeShields from the Texas Rangers in exchange for cash, MassLive's Chris Cotillo reported Thursday.

DeShields will report to Triple-A Worcester, per Cotillo. Teams can trade for players on minor league contracts after the deadline, which is just for players on major-league deals.

The 28-year-old outfielder was hitting .263 for Texas' Triple-A affiliate this season with five home runs and 18 RBIs through 63 games. He has six years of major league experience, though, and recorded at least 20 steals in three consecutive seasons with the Rangers from 2017 to 2019.

DeShields' father also played 13 years in the majors and is currently the Cincinnati Reds' first base coach.

DeShields gives the Red Sox another potential outfield option if Jarren Duran continues to scuffle at the plate. Trade deadline acquisition Kyle Schwarber also could take Duran's place once he returns from a hamstring injury, although the Red Sox may move him to first base as an upgrade over Bobby Dalbec.
