The Boston Red Sox reportedly have their eye on veteran left-hander Matt Moore as they look to add a southpaw to their righty-heavy bullpen.

MassLive.com's Chris Cotillo reports the Red Sox have "checked in" on Moore, who's a free agent after a strong 2022 with the Texas Rangers.

Moore, 33, is entering his 12th MLB season. A former All-Star with the Tampa Bay Rays, Moore also has had stints with the Francisco Giants, Philadelphia Phillies, and Detroit Tigers. He posted a 1.95 ERA and 1.176 WHIP with 83 strikeouts and 38 walks in 63 appearances (74 innings) for Texas last season.

The Red Sox have an open spot in their bullpen after trading left-hander Josh Taylor and designating veteran right-hander Matt Barnes for assignment on Tuesday. As of now, there is only one left-handed reliever (Joely Rodriguez) on the projected Opening Day roster.

Improving the bullpen has been a priority for the Red Sox front office this winter. Rodriguez, Kenley Jansen, Chris Martin, and Wyatt Mills are among their offseason additions.

Moore has a 61-62 record with a 4.45 ERA and 1.40 WHIP through 268 games (164 starts) in his career.
