Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said earlier this week that Nathan Eovaldi was "a guy we'd love to keep."
Perhaps they're headed that way after multiple reports that the Sox are closing in on a new contract for the postseason hero.
Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports that the two sides are "closing in on a deal."
Jon Heyman of FanCred.com and the MLB Network reports that he's hearing it's a four-year deal worth nearly $17 million a year.
Robert Murray of The Athletic was first to report an "intensifying" of the talks.
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic and FOX Sports also reported that a deal is close.
There were plenty of suitors for Eovaldi, including the Yankees, who were reportedly hesitant to bring their former pitcher back to the Bronx.
Eovaldi, 28 was dominant in the postseason, with 1.61 ERA in 22 1/3 innings, including the stellar, six-inning relief performance in the 18-inning loss to the Dodgers in World Series Game 3. He had a 3.33 ERA and 48/12 K/BB ratio in 54 regular-season innings after being acquired in July from the Tampa Bay Rays.
