Marcelo Mayer officially is a member of the Boston Red Sox.
The No. 4 overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft signed a $6,664,000 (full slot value) contract with the Red Sox on Thursday, according to Jim Callis of MLB.com.
The Red Sox welcomed the young shortstop to the club with a message on the screen at Fenway Park.
After inking his deal, Mayer showed off his left-handed swing in a round of batting practice.
Mayer was expected by many to be the No. 1 overall selection in this year's draft. Instead, the Pittsburgh Pirates drafted catcher Henry Davis out of Louisville, leading to Mayer landing in Boston's lap at No. 4.
