The Boston Red Sox aren't making any big moves, but they've still been busy this week.
The Red Sox have signed relief pitcher Zach Putnam to a minor league contract, WEEI's Rob Bradford reported Wednesday morning, citing a major league source.
MassLive's Chris Cotillo reported Tuesday the Red Sox were in agreement with Putnam on a deal.
Putnam missed the entire 2018 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery. The 31-year-old right-hander spent the previous four seasons with the Chicago White Sox and was a decently effective member of their bullpen, posting a 2.71 ERA with 142 strikeouts over 139 1/3 innings during his South Side tenure.
He appeared in just seven games during the 2017 season, though, as arm issues have plagued the veteran hurler over the last two years.
Putnam joins outfielder Gorkys Hernandez among Boston's recent free agent signings, and the Sox also are nearing a minor-league deal with reliever Erasmo Ramirez, per reports.
The defending World Series champions are eyeing bullpen help this offseason, as setup man Joe Kelly recently signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers and closer Craig Kimbrel reportedly is seeking a hefty contract that Boston may not be willing to pay.
