MLB Rumors: Yankees blast “New York, New York” after shutting out Red Sox at Fenway

After a 5-0 win over the Red Sox Monday night, the Yankees decided to blast Frank Sinatra's "New York, New York" in their locker room, according to Brian Hoch

This song has some history in this storied rivalry. During the 2018 ALDS, the Yankees won Game 2 in Boston to even the series at a game apiece heading back to the Bronx. They blasted the song in the locker room after the game, so the Red Sox proceeded to win the next two games at Yankee Stadium to move on to the ALCS and eventually a World Series title.

After clinching the series in Game 4, the Red Sox played the song in the visiting locker room while they celebrated the destruction of their biggest foe. Sinatra's famous tune has turned into a passive-aggressive trolling device that the two teams have traded the rights to using over the last year.

Not only did the Yankees handle the Sox in a shut out win on Monday, but they won the last three games in Fenway with some serious conviction. The Yankees are well on their way toward winning the AL East, and Boston is sputtering. Seems like the perfect time to unleash the song if you're New York.

The Yankees have been known to celebrate before actually accomplishing anything, so maybe once they fall short in the postseason once again, the Red Sox can have their moment of solace. Unfortunately, they'll all be sitting on the couch when that moment comes.
