Mookie Betts thanks Red Sox fans, promises to “go get them” in 2020

The Red Sox were a frustrating team to watch during their World Series title defense in 2019. They had one of the best lineups in baseball but their pitching staff routinely failed them day in and day out.

The starters weren't nearly as effective as in 2018 ranking 20th in ERA (4.96), and their bullpen was second in the league in blown saves (30).

Mookie Betts acknowledged what the fans have had to watch all season and thanked them for sticking with them all year after he scored the winning run in the season finale Sunday.

Betts' contract status will be one of the main storylines surrounding the Red Sox organization until he either signs a new deal or finds his way out of Boston for a new city. The team still has to form its new front office in the wake of Dave Dombrowski's firing, so whoever takes over will have to answer to the Betts situation sooner rather than later.

Betts at least seems to be looking forward to next season, so he'll at least be around during the last year of his deal. J.D. Martinez, Rick Porcello, Mitch Moreland and Brock Holt may not be though.
