Rafael Devers reaches 200 hits with milestone double in Red Sox finale

BOSTON -- Rafael Devers notched his 200th hit in Sunday's Red Sox finale, putting the capper on a breakout campaign.

Devers began the day with 198 hits, but he singled in the third and then doubled in the seventh before coming around as the go-ahead run that put left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez in line for his 20th victory.

The double was a milestone hit, too, as it gave Devers 54 for the season. He is just the 32nd player ever to double that many times in a season, and he's the first Red Sox player to do it since Dustin Pedroia hit that total in 2008.

The hit left Devers with a .310 average, 32 homers, 115 RBIs, and 129 runs in one of the best age-22 seasons in team annals. With 90 extra-base hits, he joins Joe DiMaggio (96) and Alex Rodriguez (91) as the only players ever to reach that milestone at 22 or younger.
