The World Series champion Red Sox will be heading to Washington D.C.
Sox President Sam Kennedy announced Monday that the team has been invited to the White House and accepted. No official date has been set for the visit.
Manager Alex Cora, a Puerto Rico native, was vocal in September about president Donald Trump's "disrespectful" remarks about his home country. After winning the World Series, Cora said the Red Sox would make the decision as a team whether to take the trip to the nation's capital.
"Whatever we decide is going to be respected," Cora said. "And if we decide to go, I'll use my platform the right way... Like I said before, and I know the headlines don't show it, I say I respect the President of the United States. And I know he helped [Puerto Rico]. So whenever we have to make that decision, we'll make it. And it's going to be respected."

The tradition of visiting the White House after a championship-winning season has been a subject of controversy in recent years. The Philadelphia Eagles had their invitation rescinded after winning last season's Super Bowl, and the Golden State Warriors declined theirs.
As for the 2017 Astros, they accepted their invitation, but several players opted not to attend.
