Red Sox activate Nathan Eovaldi, send Brandon Workman to Pawtucket

The Boston Red Sox officially activated pitcher Nathan Eovaldi to the major league roster Thursday after acquiring him via trade from the Tampa Bay Rays Wednesday for Jalen Beeks.

Brandon Workman will head to Pawtucket as the Red Sox exercised one of his options.

When the Red Sox traded a minor leaguer for Eovaldi, someone had to go down to Triple-A to make room.

Workman, 29, appeared in 21 games so far this season for the Red Sox, posting a 2.89 ERA out of the bullpen.

Dave Dombrowski told reporters yesterday of the team's plan to move Brian Johnson to the bullpen to make space for Eovaldi in the starting rotation.
