Red Sox helped out by fan interference call on near Jose Altuve homer

Game 4 couldn't have gotten off to a much more disheartening start for the Astros.

After the Red Sox plated two runs in the top of the first inning, Houston responded with a George Springer single and what appeared to be a Jose Altuve home run to tie the game at two.

A closer look showed the ball hit off Mookie Betts' glove as a fan interfered with the play, preventing what could have been a spectacular grab by Betts. Umpires reviewed the play and ruled Altuve out, taking the air out of Minute Maid Park early.

As one would expect, Astros manager A.J. Hinch was none too pleased with the call.

"He just said that there was fan interference on the field, and my argument was more about the fact that the ball was leaving the yard, the trajectory was there," Hinch told TBS' Lauren Shehadi. "Jose paid kind of the ultimate price for something out of his control. I'm not sure if Mookie makes that catch, he's a great athlete, but how it's an assumed out is unbelievable."
