Michael Chavis is about to get another chance with the Boston Red Sox.
The Red Sox announced Thursday that Chavis has been called up from Triple-A Worcester and that shortstop Christian Arroyo has been placed on the 10-day injured list retroactive to June 21.
Arroyo is dealing with a right knee contusion, per the team. He's played well for the Red Sox in his second season with Boston. Arroyo is batting .264 with four home runs, 19 RBI and a .324 on-base percentage in 41 games for the Sox this season.
Chavis has played in 11 major league games in 2021. He's batting .273 with one homer, two RBI, four doubles and seven runs scored in those appearances.
The Red Sox will finish their three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field on Thursday night. Boston will welcome the rival New York Yankees to Fenway Park for a three-game series beginning Friday night.
