Red Sox place LHP Brian Johnson on outright waivers

The Boston Red Sox appear to be moving on from Brian Johnson.

On Monday, the team placed Johnson on outright waivers according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. That means the southpaw can be claimed by any team within the next two days.

If Johnson clears waivers, he'll stay in the organization but be removed from the 40-man roster.

Johnson struggled mightily in 2019 while dealing with elbow issues throughout the campaign. The soon-to-be 29-year-old posted a 6.02 ERA in 40 1/3 innings pitched.
