The Boston Red Sox are struggling to win games and just lost three of four to the last-place Kansas City Royals over the weekend. These defeats kept the Red Sox at the bottom of the American League East division standings entering Monday.

The future looks a bit brighter, though.

Why is that? Well, two of the organization's top prospects, shortstop Marcelo Mayer and third baseman Blaze Jordan, have earned well-deserved promotions from Single-A Salem to High-A Greenville.

Mayer batted .286 with nine home runs, 40 RBI and a .406 on-base percentage in 66 games for Salem. He also played well defensively and went a perfect 16-for-16 on stolen base attempts. Mayer was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft and he's ranked No. 9 on MLB.com's list of the top prospects in baseball.

Jordan batted .286 with eight homers, 57 RBI and a .357 on-base percentage in 95 games for Salem. He was a third-round pick of the Red Sox in 2020.

Mayer and Jordan still aren't ready to make their MLB debuts, but the progress each player has made since being drafted is quite encouraging for the Red Sox.
