Jay Groome's journey to Major League Baseball suffered a setback earlier this year when he underwent Tommy John surgery, but the Boston Red Sox prospect provided an encouraging update on his recovery Monday with an Instagram video.

Here's what his caption says: "wow what a ride it’s been to get to this day. So many mixed emotions day in and day out. It’s been 240 days since I’ve injured my arm and 188 days since my surgery, I know this is just another step closer to the comeback but today is a day I’ve been working so hard to get to! Thank you to everyone whose been by my side up until now.. Until then just #waitonit⏰."

Groome remains one of Boston's top pitching prospects entering the 2019 season. The 20-year-old left hander was a 2016 first-round draft pick (12th overall). He pitched 55 1/3 innings with a 5.69 ERA, 72 strikeouts and 30 walks against Single-A competition in 2017.

It's unknown when in 2019 Groome will return to real game action, but he appears to be well on his way to making that a reality.
