The Red Sox' Opening Day loss was topped off by a stat that isn't a great look for the defending World Series champions.
Boston fell to the Mariners 12-4 on Thursday. The 12 runs allowed were the most ever by a defending champ on Opening Day.
On the bright side, the Red Sox lost on Opening Day a year ago -- also scoring four runs in that game -- and went on to win 108 games and a World Series title. So hey, there's still hope for 2019, Red Sox fans. No need to panic just yet.
