Red Sox say Manny Machado stole signs during Dodgers' two-run rally in Game 2 of World Series

Everyone loves a good supervillian. Or at least loves to hate a good supervillian.

Manny Machado has been the supervillian of the MLB playoffs. And his latest master plan was just revealed.

The Red Sox claim to have caught Manny Machado stealing signs from second-base during the fourth inning of Game 2 Wednesday night.

Machado was on second-base after singling and advancing on a walk to Chris Taylor. Kike Hernandez then came up to bat with the bases loaded.

Throughout the at-bat, Machado was seen making exaggerated motions, seeming to relay both pitch and location to Hernandez. David Price struck out Hernandez on the ninth pitch of the at-bat.

Pitching coach Dana LeVangie saw Machado, "but when a guy gets a big punchout in that situation and a coach comes out to take a visit...I didn't want to f--- with the momentum there because David got a huge strikeout."

LeVangie chose not to visit the mound, and up came Yasiel Puig.

Machado again gestured to Puig, who hit an RBI single on the first pitch, tying the game at one.

LeVangie then went out to talk with Price and catcher Christian Vazquez, though he was frustrated with himself he hadn't gone out prior to Puig's at bat. "I let it get in my way—because of the strikeout, I didn't go out there [earlier]. I was so pissed that I didn't," LeVangie said.

The Sox pitching coach emphasized that what Machado was doing was not illegal, and some of the onus falls on the pitcher and catcher to change up signs and ensure that doesn't happen.

LeVangie laughed about the animated nature of Machado's motions, saying he'd seen more obvious in a Little League World Series game.

Manager Alex Cora had no comment, while Vazquez, Price, and Machado were not available on the travel day.
